From Zero to Drupal: My First Year as a Developer

I am a newbie in this kind of sessions, so I will try my best, my session will be about how I discovered Drupal and started working with it as a Backend Developer in an international company like Factorial GmbH, all this without having a very high level of English. Six months before I graduated in Computer Engineering, I had never heard of it, and my mentor told me about this job and I was encouraged to try it. One year later, I am fully immersed in Drupal in a way I never expected.

AI is breaking Open Source

Artificial Intelligence is challenging open source because it ruptures the boundary between software and data. As a result, it's not clear what it actually means for an AI to be "open source". Existing open source licenses cannot cope because it's not even clear what the "source code" of an AI model actually is.

The genesis of generative grace

They seemed to come out of nowhere and were inescapable: the stories about 'Artificial Intelligence'. Wonder – or was it awe? – for what OpenAI's model is capable of, overtook critical reflection on what Large Language Models exactly do, on why we all started using them en masse, on why these astonishing applications were unleashed on the world right now, on how we can employ these developments properly.

Advanced permissions system with Groups

While working on rebuilding a Royal College platform in the United Kingdom, we were tasked with a challenge on how to manage permissions where Groups played a major role in granting the correct access.

Having several entities in play, different roles in different Group types, with various fields from those entities deciding on the logic when granting access to a certain entity, the number of components used in the system quickly grew.

The system also had to plug into several other components the platform used such as Search API, Views API, Plugin API.
